Keeping things wintery, spicy, and just a touch sweet with this Spicy Jalapeño Ginger Moscow Mule (with Mocktail). Vodka mixed with fresh lime juice, grapefruit juice, spicy jalapeños, fresh ginger, and topped off with ginger beer. It’s a touch of sweet and a little bit spicy. Perfectly fitting for welcoming in the new year. Finish this cocktail off with candied rosemary and jalapeños. It’s warming, sweet, and spicy, ideal for these cold winter nights. You can make this as is or as a mocktail. You can even make a festive champagne punch too!

Happy almost 2023!

I actually had another post planned for today, but at the last minute, I decided we should end the year with just one last holiday cocktail.

I made this exact drink for my brother Red the other night, he loved it so much. So of course, I kind of wanted to share the recipe with you all for New Year.

Here are the easy details

Use a cocktail shaker or even just a glass jar with a lid (use what you have). Then shake together your favorite vodka, a squeeze of fresh lime, fresh grapefruit juice, a few jalapeño slices for the spice aspect, and grated ginger for a mule that’s extra gingery.

Strain everything into a mule mug filled with ice. Then top off with ginger beer for even more spice, plus sweetness, and a touch of fizziness.

If you want to take the drink a step further, make candied rosemary and jalapeños for garnish, which I highly recommend.

I boil honey with jalapeños and ginger, then dip the rosemary sprigs into the spicy honey. Let the honey drip off, then cover each sprig in sugar.

This is really pretty in the mule as a garnish. Plus, it adds some sweetness too. Then, add a little fresh mint too.

Make a mocktail and or make punch

You can also make this into a mocktail or even a punch by adding champagne! I provided directions for it all.

The punch is especially delicious with an entire bottle of champagne added!

Candied Jalapeño Honey Rosemary

  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
    2. Bring 1/2 cup honey, 1/4 cup water, 1-2 jalapeño slices, and 4 slices of fresh ginger to a boil over high heat. Boil 2 minutes. Remove from the heat and let cool.
    3. Dip the rosemary sprigs in the honey syrup and place on the prepared baking sheet. Sprinkle the rosemary with granulated sugar on all sides, making sure the rosemary is thoroughly coated in sugar. Allow to dry on the baking sheet for 1 hour. Great minds think alike! 😉 I came up with something very similar for new years (2024). A friend makes candied jalapeno slices and we were wondering how else to use them, and muddled in a winter drink came to mind. We also had a case of grapefruit and some limes. The juices, some spicy ginger beer with the heat and touch of candied sweetness of the jalapenos made for a fantastic drink with (or without) the vodka. It had just the right amount of afterburn. Love your addition of grated ginger and the sprig of rosemary. Homemade apple cider as a substitute in the mocktail will be my next experiment.

I had to add a good bit of ginger beer to make it not bitter. Might have been my lime or grapefruit. Still pretty good and glad I tried it.
